The Neil Cowley Trio As part of the Festival’s new strand, Festival on the Move, the trio will play an astonishing 6 gigs in 24 hours in a range of venues across the capital. Neil Cowley is a dazzling pianist and outstanding composer. His trio fizzes with energy and their powerfully dynamic brand of jazz has won them a BBC Jazz Award and legions of fans. The BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music Winners Announcement 2008 takes
place at London’s Dingwalls on Thursday April
10th. There will be
live performances from several of this year’s nominees, including
Algerian rebel rocker Rachid Taha, who will close the proceedings
with an hour long set, and from previous winner, Indian classical singer Kaushiki
Chakrabarty. Hosted by BBC Radio 3’s Mary Ann Kennedy, the ceremony will see some of the dazzling stars of world music receive their Planet in front of an audience of key figures from the world music industry, media and members of the public. Many of the awards, presented for an outstanding album or live work during the past year, will be collected in person by the winning artists. Other nominees for this year’s awards include acclaimed Franco-Spanish pop star Manu Chao, desert bluesmen Tinariwen, and Malian ngoni virtuoso Bassekou Kouyate. | THE KEEPNEWS COLLECTION a reissue series of classic albums – the 5th installment PRODUCED BY JAZZ LEGEND ORRIN KEEPNEWS November 2008 One of the most respected of all jazz producers, Orrin Keepnews has had a long and productive career. Alongside his friend Bill Grauer, Keepnews founded the Riverside label in 1953, and soon became interested in modern jazz styles. In 1955, the label scored a coup when they signed Thelonius Monk, and, during the next decade, other important artists followed - Wes Montogemery, Bill Evans and Cannonball Adderley - all creating some of their finest work under the producers’ creative guidance. Riverside was a significant label during its life which ended in 1964 shortly after Grauer’s death, with its bankruptcy.In 1966, Keepnews founded the Milestone label, running it until it was purchased by Fantasy in 1973. He served as vice president of Fantasy throughout most of the 1970’s, and in 1985 founded yet another label, Landmark, (which was acquired by Muse in 1993). Through the years Orrin Keepnews has been involved in countless number of important record dates, most recently producing reissues by the Bluebird and RCA Labels. 2008 Nationwide Mercury Prize – An Album of the Year 












































One of the most respected of all jazz producers, Orrin Keepnews has had a long and productive career. Alongside his friend Bill Grauer, Keepnews founded the Riverside label in 1953, and soon became interested in modern jazz styles. In 1955, the label scored a coup when they signed Thelonius Monk, and, during the next decade, other important artists followed - Wes Montogemery, Bill Evans and Cannonball Adderley - all creating some of their finest work under the producers’ creative guidance. Riverside was a significant label during its life which ended in 1964 shortly after Grauer’s death, with its bankruptcy.
