Minihi

ALBUM TITLE:   Stasis Loops

RELEASE DATE:   10 February 2023

LABEL:   Veleveteen Records

Minihi, the London-based percussionist/composer duo Zands Duggan and Louise Anna Duggan are renowned for their uniquely percussive take on contemporary instrumental music. On 10 February 2023 they release Stasis Loops, their bold, stunning, sophomore album that sits at the place where the classical palette meets the world of electronics and deep, deep groove.

From an armoury of instruments, Minihi blend mallets, piano and bell-like textures with primitive drums and bubbling synths  to construct vivid soundscapes that combine the earthy sounds of the acoustic, with the symphonic sound of the electronic.

Following their acclaimed 2021 debut, ‘Recaptures’, Stasis Loops finds Minihi diving even deeper into their distinctive sound-world of deep grooves built from rare percussion sounds with unique electronic, vocal and keyboard textures. Adept at working with narrative in their work for screen and theatre, tracks are simultaneously cinematic in scope yet delicate and personal.

Drawing upon themes of herd mentality and climate breakdown, Stasis Loops is an observation of the fragile human psyche and explores how minds can become blinkered on both a personal and societal level.

Bala Rocky is the rousing new single taken from Stasis Loops, released January 11th. A theatrical tribute to the remarkable life of a friend who has passed, it’s a reminder of the precious fragility of all of us and our planet. A rallying cry to grab our fleeting time on earth with both hands.

As hay brushes on a huge bass drum mustering up an orchestration of old harmoniums, whistles, mallet percussion and modular synths, Louise’s voice insistently refrains a poignant quote from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar it will come when it will come”.

ABOUT MINIHI

Minihi is the creative outlet of London-based composers Zands Duggan and Louise Anna Duggan. Together, they create a uniquely percussive take on contemporary instrumental music by blending mallets, piano and bell-like textures with earthy drums and bubbling synths. The London-based musicians construct vivid soundscapes where the classical palette intersects with the world of groove and electronics.

Minihi first came to our attention with their debut track  Tokaido, released in 2020 by Deutsche Grammophon as part of  Project XII, a collection presenting new works by innovative and creative contemporary musicians.  In 2021, the pair went on to release their critically acclaimed debut Album, ‘Recaptures’ on Berlin label Unperceived Records.

The pair perform and record individually and together. Between them, they have worked with artists and ensembles including, amongst others, Agnes Obel, Squid, Galya Bisengalieva, Melt Yourself Down, Lady Gaga, Thom Yorke, London Contemporary Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, Angus MacRae, Kae Tempest, Dan Carey, and Alex Somers.

They have composed and performed for film, TV and theatre including The National and the Royal Shakespeare Company alongside an upcoming ITV series. They work across classical, jazz, folk, pop and indie genres taking inspiration from them all.

Minihi’s tracks have had radio play on BBC 6Music, BBC Radio London, Soho Radio, Scala Radio, Worldwide FM, and international radio stations across Europe, USA, Canada and Japan. They regularly appear across Apple Music and Spotify editorial playlists such as Classical X, Ambiente, Not Quite Classical, Classical Edge and Classicaltronics.

Minihi means sanctuary in ancient Breton French, and is the original name of a remote island reef near Louise’s birthplace of Jersey
